Bender has caught the eye of a number of clubs
including Southampton and Liverpool, but the
Gunners are hoping to steal a march on their
rivals.
German publication Bild claims the north London
outfit have already been in contact with the
German club over the possibility of doing a deal.
Dortmund are going through something of a
transitional period after losing coach Jurgen
Klopp at the end of last season, while struggling
to a seventh-place finish.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made no secret
of his desire to strengthen the middle third and
the report suggests that Bender will be drafted
in to provide competition for Francis Coquelin.
