Manchester
City will make a second bid for Raheem Sterling but are refusing to
meet Liverpool’s £50million-plus valuation of the England star.
And
City were ready to follow up their interest in Paul Pogba on Friday
night with a formal offer for the £70m-rated Juventus midfielder.
Liverpool turned down a verbal offer of £25m plus £5m in add-ons for Sterling and publicly insist they will not sell.
However,
City will further test their resolve with an improved bid as manager
Manuel Pellegrini looks to freshen up his squad after they finished
second to Chelsea in last season’s Premier League.
Senior
officials at the Etihad Stadium are keen on Sterling but determined not
to shell out more than market value for a 20-year-old, whose form has
dipped.
They see Liverpool’s valuation as unrealistic for a player who was recently offered a new contract worth £100,000 a week.
City
played down reports in Italy yesterday that they have lodged a bid of
£58m for Pogba but it is understood that contact has been made between
the two clubs and a formal offer is likely to follow.
They will face fierce competition from Barcelona, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
